Welcome to great sailing.

Charleston is well known for its history, beauty, charm, food, and events. Among the events, sailing stands out as unique in enhancing the natural beauty of the Charleston Harbor.

First started as a regional regatta in 1996, Charleston Race Week has grown into the largest keelboat regatta in North and South America.

Converging on Charleston each spring, hundreds of crews ready their boats for action leading up to the opening horn. This incredible event brings excitement and professional level competition rivaled by only a few other sailing events worldwide. Charleston Race Week,  April 12-15, winner of US Sailing's One Design Award for Regatta Excellence, includes about 250 boats in 16 classes, combining one-design with inshore and offshore courses.  The event attracts many top sailors from 11 countries and receives extensive international media coverage.

Every year the event attracts numerous world champions in various classes, America's Cup sailors, Volvo Ocean Race sailors, and Olympic sailors. Many locals participate including members of C.O.R.A. (Charleston Ocean Racing Association), local clubs, the College of Charleston, and numerous high schools sailors. In total, about 3,500 participants ride the waves for this three-day event pumping $4 million dollars into the local economy.

From almost anywhere around the Charleston Harbor,  you can glimpse jibs, mainsails, and colorful spinnakers filled with air.  Bring a camera. You will want to capture the color, excitement, and beauty of this awe-inspiring spectacle.

The headquarters for the event is the Charleston Harbor Resort Marina where the beach area will be busy, day and night, with activities from vendor booths to a huge beach party and awards ceremony. Stop by the beach area for a daily brief by with America's Cup winner Ed Baird as he uses a Jumbotron to review race highlights.

Of the many regattas hosted in Charleston each year, Race Week is the most anticipated.  One of my favorite parts of this event is the Warrior Sailing Program which gets Wounded Warriors out on the water for some outstanding competition. Another event everyone enjoys is the Pro-Am race, which teams up championship sailors with anyone who wants to get a taste of sailboat racing.

Come out to the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina April 12th to April 15th and enjoy Race Week. Put your toes in the sand and take in the views.  This is a one of a kind experience that is perfect for everyone.

Sponsors of the event include Gill, Sperry, Garmin, CSRA, B&G, Roper St Francis Hospital, Mt Pleasant, Sailflow, US Sailing, New England Ropes, Sail Cloth Technology, College of Charleston, Lightning Bug, Bainbridge, Francisco Davila's Signature Coffee, The State of South Carolina, and Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina. Participants average household income is $377,000 and average net worth is $2.3 million and 96% are college graduates. The average age is 49.

Get your Event Pass for race week for $ 85. Daily tickets will also be sold. For more on Race Week 2018, go to RACE WEEK.

Charleston race week gives back to charities and educational programs that benefit the community and the environment. It is a  501(c)(3) charitable organization.
